Notepad++ can be opened multi instance, you just need to alter the shortcut (don't have it to hand).

It is a free version of the well know super editor, but with crush and no auto recovery

This is a great editor for programming. It detects Hex characters and highlights them and can be used to convert Hex to Ascii and vice versa.

Supports hundreds of file types. It automatically detects the type of files it is and highlights the script tags in colour. It has a built-in spell-checker, FTP uploader and allows synchronised vertical and horizontal scrolling, perfect for comparing code in multiple views.

This is ideal for scripting, programming and more. The best thing about it is, it's free and has no junkware.
